Blackboard to Detect Plagiarism
Jul 10th, 2007
According to a Wired Campus post, the learning management platform Blackboard recently announced the addition of a plagiarism detection program. The program will detect plagiarized passages in students' uploaded papers. However, it will not retain students' papers against their will. Wired Campus explains:
"Unlike other plagiarism-detection services, such as Turnitin, Blackboard is avoiding controversy by not automatically uploading students' term papers to the database as they are checked. Students must first give their permission for their work to be copied into the database."
Although I'm not a huge Blackboard fan, this new program is sure to be useful for online professors who do use the platform. Instead of checking student papers against other online services, professors can now find plagiarized papers immediately. For more see: Blackboard Takes on Plagiarism.
