Learning Management Systems of the Future

Few educators seem to believe that traditional content management systems such as Blackboard will be the most effective way of teaching in the future. Here's what Distance-Educator has to say about these systems:

"I think we can agree that the learning management systems currently available, such as Blackboard, are no more than means of providing instructional content to students and receiving some feedback from them. In reality, they mimic classroom instruction at best. What they do not do is manage learning! It is a misnomer to call them learning management systems. What is needed in the future is a system by which students can truly manage their learning."

So, what does the future hold in terms of learning management? According to the article, we need a system that provides structure according to the learner's prior knowledge and preferences and allows students to engage in educational dialogue. For a better idea of how this learning management system would work see: Learning Management Systems of the Future.
