More State Colleges Offer Online Courses
Sep 21st, 2007
According to a recent AP article, a growing number of state universities and colleges are creating online programs. Here's a blurb:
"The virtual or 'borderless' campus is not new. Early online course delivery evolved from video-based teaching and has taken off over the past two decades. But in recent years, campus capacity concerns, shifting funding structures in higher education, increased work force demands and an emphasis on the nontraditional student have pushed administrators to offer more courses on the Web."
I hope that this trend continues. As more state colleges offer online programs, more virtual students will qualify for in-state tuition. For-profit online programs often charge thousands of dollars per semester. Students taking online classes from their local state schools may pay significantly less.
