Online Learning for Seniors
Jul 6th, 2007
A growing number of seniors are beginning to take online courses. But, virtual learning poses some unique challenges for older learners. A recent eLearn Magazine article reports:
"There is a general youth-bias in the technology ecosystem, and a stereotype of seniors as technology-averse. Designers prefer to design for people like themselves, rather than for people in a different stage of life with very different wants and needs . Designers are inclined toward the new and cool; creating a moving target of Web-based interfaces that requires constant relearning."
If you're a senior student or a professor working with older learners, the article is definitely worth a read: Online Learning for Seniors – Barriers and Opportunities.
