Top Business Schools and MBA Programs

Filed in archive by mstandaert on January 08, 2004

Business Week has highlighted some of the top MBA programs where you can find traditional as well as distance learning courses.

They don't rank distance learning programs like they do the traditional ones, but this page is a useful place to start searching and has data from 2003 back to 2000.

Below this, they have in-depth descriptions of many distance MBA programs, some of which you can work on from your home country if you happen to be outside the U.S.

Here is a ad, the front page for the Rushmore University Online MBA program with many testimonials, links, and so on.

A good thing to do would be to compare some of the Business Week descriptions of programs with the advertisements these universities use on their homepages to compare the costs, accreditation, and how influential each of the programs are. A good indicator may also be how long the program has been around and what the ratios for degrees are. You want a good degree, you want actual learning you can apply. A piece of paper will get you only so far, it's what you've built up in your mind that will take you further. So, carrying this further...you've taken a look at the Rushmore page, now look at the Business Week assessment.

This assessmentlinks actually has a lot of information, and Rushmore has been around since 1996, so at least a few years. Others are relatively new. Doesn't mean they won't be good, but you probably want to check them out more carefully first. Another good thing to do is ask for e-mails of students who have graduated, and do a sampling of the schools you've narrowed down. Maybe three per school, as some attitudes may be different, just depending on the person's situation after they graduated, and if they have been able to apply their knowledge how they thought they would before enrolling.

U.S. News and World Report also does rankings. But they don't seem to have much about online schools, and the part-time link only has three listings. Still, a good resource.

Also, the University of Illinois has a site with links for various other resources to help in your search.

"Excellent post. I totally agree that it is the content and presentation skills of the educator that will make or break an online learning event, not the technology."
